Short answer by country
Bankonbet holds no licence in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand or Malaysia, and we could not find any licence currently covering its main website at all. In Australia and Malaysia the brand cannot legally take players. In Ontario and Alberta it is outside the licensed market, while elsewhere in Canada it sits in a legal grey area. In Ireland it is not a licensed bookmaker, and Irish online casino play remains unlicensed grey territory. In New Zealand, offshore casinos face a hard cut-off on 1 December 2026.
| Country | Local licence? | Status | Regulator |
|---|---|---|---|
| Australia | No | Not permitted: online casino is banned, and betting needs an Australian licence | ACMA / state and territory regulators |
| Canada: Ontario and Alberta | No | Not permitted (open licensed markets; Bankonbet is not part of them) | AGCO / iGaming Ontario; Alberta regulator |
| Canada: other provinces | No | Grey area (provincial monopolies; offshore sites tolerated in practice) | Provincial lottery corporations |
| Ireland: betting | No | Not permitted (not on the Revenue register) | Revenue / GRAI |
| Ireland: casino | No | Grey area (no casino licences exist yet) | GRAI |
| New Zealand | No | Unlicensed; must stop from 1 Dec 2026 unless it applies for a licence | Department of Internal Affairs |
| Malaysia | No | Illegal: no online gambling licences exist | Ministry of Finance (land-based only) |
The missing licence: who is behind Bankonbet?
Most offshore gambling sites at least display a licence seal in the footer. Bankonbet does not. When we loaded bankonbet.com in September 2026, the footer contained payment logos, an “18+” notice and a copyright line. It named no company, no registered address and no licence number. That is unusual, and it is the first thing a player should notice.
So we reconstructed the paper trail from official registers and review sites:
- Rabidi N.V. (Curaçao). Review sites have long named Rabidi N.V. as the original operator. The Curaçao Gaming Authority (CGA) enforcement register lists Rabidi N.V. (company registration 151791), licence OGL/2023/103/0067, as revoked with effect from 11 June 2024.
- Adonio N.V. (Curaçao). The CGA’s online licence registry (edition of 21 September 2026) shows Adonio N.V. (registration 156480), licence OGL/2023/158/0074, issued on 13 May 2024 and revoked at the operator’s own request as of 6 February 2025. Hungary’s gambling regulator names Adonio N.V. as the operator behind 61 Bankonbet web addresses it has blocked, which is official confirmation that this company ran the brand.
- Liernin Enterprises Ltd. AskGamblers currently lists this company as the operator with a licence from PAGCOR in the Philippines. We found no PAGCOR record confirming this, so we treat it as unverified.
- Stellar Ltd (Anjouan). Other reviews attribute Bankonbet to Stellar Ltd under an Anjouan licence. The Anjouan Gaming register does list Stellar Ltd, licence ALSI-202411077-FI2, valid from 22 November 2024 to 21 November 2026. But the register also lists every domain the licence covers, and bankonbet.com is not one of them.
The honest summary: two Curaçao licences once linked to the brand have both been revoked, and the two current claims either cannot be confirmed or do not cover the site. Even a valid offshore licence would not make Bankonbet legal in any of the five countries covered here. Each country recognises only its own licences.
Country by country
Australia
The Interactive Gambling Act 2001 bans online casino games, online poker and in-play online betting for people in Australia. Online sports and race betting is legal only with bookmakers licensed by a state or territory. The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) enforces the Act and has been ordering internet providers to block illegal gambling sites since November 2019. Bankonbet holds no Australian licence, and its casino product could never be licensed in Australia anyway. ACMA’s website did not load from our test location, so we could not check whether a Bankonbet domain is on ACMA’s blocked list. The Act’s offences target operators and advertisers, not players.
Canada
Under the Criminal Code, gambling is a provincial matter. Ontario runs an open, licensed market through iGaming Ontario and the AGCO, and we did not find Bankonbet on its list of regulated operators. Alberta opened its own licensed market on 13 July 2026. Advertising unlicensed operators is prohibited in both provinces. Bankonbet is also absent from the Kahnawà:ke Gaming Commission’s permit-holder list, which many offshore brands serving Canada use. In the other provinces, only the provincial lottery corporations are formally authorised, but offshore sites are widely available and players are not prosecuted in practice. That is a grey area, not a licence.
Ireland
Online betting in Ireland needs a licence. The remote bookmaker licences issued by Revenue are moving to the Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland (GRAI), which began issuing betting licences on 1 July 2026. We searched Revenue’s register of licensed remote bookmakers in September 2026. None of the names linked to Bankonbet appear on it. For online casino games, no Irish licence can be obtained yet, because the GRAI’s gaming licensing phase is not expected before 2027. That leaves offshore casino play in a grey zone. The Gambling Regulation Act 2024 is being brought in step by step, so the room for unlicensed operators is shrinking.
New Zealand
New Zealand is in the middle of a big change. The Online Casino Gambling Act entered into force on 1 May 2026 and creates up to 15 online casino licences. From 1 December 2026, online casino operators, including offshore ones, may not operate or advertise in New Zealand unless they hold or have applied for one of those licences. Sports betting stays with the TAB. We found no sign that Bankonbet has applied. Unless that changes, its casino offer to New Zealanders will be plainly unlawful from December.
Malaysia
Malaysia does not license any online casino or online betting site. The only legal gambling products are land-based ones licensed through the Ministry of Finance, such as the Genting casino and licensed number-forecast operators. The Common Gaming Houses Act 1953 covers people who take part in gaming as well as operators, so players carry real legal risk. We found no public Malaysian blocklist to search for Bankonbet domains, but that does not change the answer: no offshore site is legal there.
What it means for your money
- Nobody local to complain to. ACMA, the AGCO, the GRAI and the DIA cannot help with a dispute against an unlicensed operator. With the Curaçao licences revoked, it is unclear which foreign regulator would take a complaint either.
- Self-exclusion does not reach it. Australia’s national BetStop register and Ontario’s self-exclusion programs apply only to licensed operators.
- Payment and withdrawal risk. Banks may decline payments to unlicensed gambling merchants. Players of brands in this group have repeatedly reported slow withdrawals and repeated identity checks. We cannot verify individual cases, but a missing licence means no regulator has to investigate them.
- Your documents leave local protection. Offshore sites usually ask for a passport, a utility bill and sometimes a bank statement before paying out. With an unnamed operator, you do not know which company stores those files or which data-protection law applies.
- Tax questions have no easy answer. Tax treatment of gambling winnings differs between Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand and Malaysia, and winnings from unlicensed sites can raise extra questions. If the amounts are significant, ask a tax adviser rather than relying on forum advice.
- Clone sites. Many look-alike “Bankonbet” domains exist, some run by affiliates and some possibly by fraudsters. Without a licence page listing official domains, you cannot tell the real site from a copy.
Check any site in five minutes
- Scroll to the footer. No company name and no licence number is a red flag in itself.
- If a licence is shown, open the seal. It should lead to the regulator’s own domain (for Curaçao, cga.cw; for Anjouan, anjouangaming.com), and the domain you are on should be listed.
- Australia: check the ACMA register of licensed wagering services.
- Ontario: check the iGaming Ontario operator list.
- Ireland: check the Revenue register of remote bookmakers and grai.ie.
- New Zealand: follow the Department of Internal Affairs announcements on licensed online casinos before and after 1 December 2026.
Where to play legally instead
- Ontario: our review of a licensed sportsbook, TonyBet Ontario.
- Ireland: our review of a licensed bookmaker, TonyBet Ireland.
- Australia: pick a bookmaker from the ACMA register of licensed wagering providers.
- New Zealand and Malaysia: we do not recommend any online operator. In New Zealand, wait for the official list of licensed online casinos. In Malaysia, no online option is legal.
Myths we hear about Bankonbet
“It accepts my country, so it must be allowed.” Accepting a registration says nothing about legality. Licensed operators must block players from countries where they are not licensed.
“It’s a Curaçao site, so it’s regulated.” The Curaçao licences once linked to the brand were revoked in 2024 and 2025. The site itself shows no licence today.
“If the site were illegal, it would be blocked.” Blocking is slow and partial. Regulators add domains one by one, and offshore brands keep launching new numbered addresses. Hungary alone lists 61 blocked Bankonbet domains. A site that loads is not a site that is licensed.
“Big bonuses mean a big, safe company.” Bonus size tells you nothing about who holds your balance. The absence of an operator name tells you a lot more.
FAQ
Is Bankonbet legal in Australia?
No. It has no Australian licence, and online casino games are banned for people in Australia under the Interactive Gambling Act 2001.
Is Bankonbet legal in Canada?
Not in Ontario or Alberta, where only licensed operators may offer online gambling. In the other provinces it is a grey area: it is not authorised, but players are not usually prosecuted.
Is Bankonbet licensed in Ireland?
No. None of the companies linked to it appear on Revenue’s register of licensed remote bookmakers, and Ireland does not yet issue online casino licences.
What happens to Bankonbet in New Zealand after 1 December 2026?
From that date, offshore online casinos may not operate or advertise in New Zealand unless they hold or have applied for a licence. We found no sign that Bankonbet has applied.
Can Malaysians play at Bankonbet legally?
No. Malaysia licenses no online casinos or bookmakers, and its gaming law can apply to players as well as operators.
Which licence does Bankonbet hold?
We could not confirm any. Its former operators’ Curaçao licences were revoked in 2024 and 2025, the site shows no licence, and the Anjouan licence cited by some reviews does not list bankonbet.com.
Who operates Bankonbet now?
Sources disagree. AskGamblers names Liernin Enterprises Ltd; other reviews name Stellar Ltd. Neither claim could be confirmed on an official register for the bankonbet.com domain.
How we checked
This article is based on desk research carried out in September 2026. We read the public footer of bankonbet.com, the Curaçao Gaming Authority’s licence registry (21 September 2026) and enforcement register, the Anjouan Gaming licence register, and the Hungarian regulator’s blocked-site database. We also checked the iGaming Ontario operator list, the Kahnawà:ke permit-holder list and Revenue’s remote bookmaker register, and we reviewed New Zealand’s new online casino law. We could not access ACMA’s site. We did not open an account or deposit money.
